Post mortem
Post Mortem for Devtober 2019 Jam
The goal was to make an action game with lots of blood and gore, and the result was a puzzle game with no blood. Still I am happy with the result considering the small budget (0$). I did not work on the game every day, except towards the end. Most work was done on week ends.
The graphic is simple, and there is no sound. This is not a big problem for a puzzle game. The game design is straight forward, but still designing the last level took several hours. There are only two levels. One tutorial level and one hard level.
There were no true difficulties in the game development, but many obstacles to overcome. One such obstacle was the stones that can be moved around. Another was the green goo that grows. Not to mention pure programming problems such as copying multi dimensional arrays.
The game was made with pure HTML5 and Javascript. Although this is not ideal for game development it allows one to go outside the sometimes narrow bounds set by game engines. Also the games can be very small. This game size is less than 100 kb.
Overall I enjoyed the jam and it resulted in a decent game.
And now the big question: Is the game any fun?
"Not super fun", according to my 11 year old son.
